Gil Evans Orchestra - Parabola - 1978 - HORO HDP 31-32

This is an important LP, for me.

Not only because Gil Evans is among the most important composers and arrangers in jazz, and perhaps is not even for his poetic lyricism or for the wonderful voices of Steve Lacy, Lew Soloff or Earl McIntyre.
I don't believe it's important for the music of Hendrix, that Gil would have liked to play with Miles Davis, and perhaps even because it's one of the greatest projects of HORO label.


Maybe it's just for the title, or for that solitary golden portrait, but I feel that is an important LP for me, now.
I can't say more.

Talking about music is like dancing to architecture...

Claudio Lo Cascio New Jazz Society - South-East Pipe-Lines - 1975

Many years ago, before jazz was recognized its value through all those songs then defined world, were very few Italian musicians who draw on the national folk to let their music breathe freely. Even fewer those who were able to conduct their "local" language at the same level as the global.

Among these few, brave explorers music, can not be forgotten, in addition to the great Trovesi, the Sicilian piano player Claudio Lo Cascio and his New Jazz Society.

Gil Cuppini Big Band - Sof' Stroke - 1968

Gilberto "Gil" Cuppini is not a jazzman that needs to be presented.

Then just scroll through the names of friends, and great musicians, who came forward to his call, to realize the respect and credibility to the Italian jazz recognizes at this man.

This LP is a recording of a memorable concert took place in late summer of 1968 at Universal Club of Marina di Carrara, entirely dedicated to the memory of Giancarlo Testoni, well-known music critic, founder of the "Musica Jazz" magazine.

The songs are presented within a scenic framework. The action takes place in a ballroom; Musica per I vostri padri (Music for your fathers) is the title of the evening, conducted by the disc-jockey of Radio Anguilla (Eel Radio). The traditional, old fashioned singer has to compete with noise, applause, comments and requests from the undisciplined audience, asking for the disco music to begin again. At the end the singer is drowned by the noise of a pinball machine.

Giorgio Gaslini Quintet - Live at the Public Theater in New York - 1980

On April 1980, invited by the Public Theater of New York, with the collaboration of the italian institute of Culture, the italian pianist and composer Giorgio Gaslini, together with his Quintet, performed the concert which this double album is the live recording of.

Following the New York public's enthusiasm, many important articles were written on the New York Times (Robert Palmer), on the New York Post (Richard M. Sudhalter), on the Down Beat and on the canadian Coda. During the same period, the Giorgio Gaslini Quintet was to be heard at the Columbia University (italian house) too.

The long program of the concert, here four sides recorded, is like a journey through the complex and rich Giorgio Gaslini's musical and poetic world.

It is not only an explosion of creative and instrumental strenth from the five musicians of the
group, it is also the representation of a precious display of an individual originality within the unity of the whole group.
